I've decided my favorite subjects so far this year are Zombies and Batgirl. Second place goes to the rest of Gotham, whom I live with on a hate-love relationship.

This is my most recent comission by Michelle Sciuto. She does lovely work. And I continue to gather evidence on why Steph and Tim should get back together. Bryan Q. Miller, please write a "We're back together" issue of Batgirl and kill off that Tam girl in the Red Robin series. No one likes her anyways. Thanks!

But that's basically my thought for the day. I swear to start writing more. I'm working on reading Feed by Mira Grant right now. So I'll be sure to post how it turned out, and there have been many new Batman trades to come out I haven't had a chance to write about. So, hopefully I'll get to that soon.

Until then, this will have to do.

I hate when my friends find out....

I want this poster so bad. It's the perfect explanation for what anyone with any kind of artistic ability goes through.

That said, I have to go, I've been asked to make fliers for a donations deal at work.

Check out Teefury today. Awesome Care Bear/zombie mashup. Had I been more of a Care Bear person I would have bought it. Alas, I was more of a Darkwing Duck/Bonkers kind of gal.

An Ode to the Zombie Apocalypse

The Walking Dead, they creep at night.
The Walking Dead, they like to bite.
They shamble on thier two dead feet.
Always searching for human meat.

I escape in the day and hide at night.
For I fear the most, thier awful bite.
And if I ever join the dead,
Please shoot me once...in the head.

One of my friends is doing a school project where she had to write poetry about survival. I suggested a zombie survival poem. This is what I came up with in about two minutes, so it's pretty awful, and yet entertaining. That is all.

A collection of shirts was my only goal.

All in All, it's been while since I did a post, but I mean, that kind of thing happens. I think they call it life.

In a random epiphany I had the other day while speaking with my aquatic roomate, Sheldon, I discovered I have an overwhelming addiction to pop culture. While I may not get every reference made, I get most of them. I mean why else would one have a blog that discusses Movies and Zombies and many other interesting articles? It's because I'm obssessed. Clearly.

My life centers around movies, books, comics, and music. The more I learn the more dangerous I become and the more my list of Random Facts grow. I'm on #3,115 or around about that. Not that I actually know that many random facts, that's just where the list is at.

But the reason I was writing this post today was this: To showcase the many shirts I have bought on shirt.woot.com and teefury.com, in the past weekish. Also to put up a website a friend sent me this morning. If I was any good at playing video games, i would have most certaintly tried out for this show. No doubt it would have been my way in. Never the less, here's the list:

Shirt.Woot.com:

It's a Trap!
http://shirt.woot.com/friends.aspx?k=11929

Music is Life
http://shirt.woot.com/friends.aspx?k=8565

Thin Red Lines
http://shirt.woot.com/friends.aspx?k=12060
No Cultural Reference here, I just really like this shirt. It mesmerizes me.

Teefury.com:

Soylent Green Zombie
http://www.buyzombie.com/2010/02/03/zombie-clothing/zombie-shirts/24-hours-only-soylant-green-zombie-shirt/
The Website only offers one shirt a day, for 24 hours only, after that it's gone foor good. I missed out on a brillant At-At shirt. So now I visit the site every day. Because I want a t-shirt collection as awesome as Sheldon Coopers. However, I will never own a green lantern shirt.By far the lamest superhero ever. His weakness is the color yellow. Who does that?

Here goes nothing. Expect more posts. I got a new job and I now sit at a computer all day long. Which makes for much stealthy internet surfing.

Baby Jesus hates Zombies.

I gotta say, October is my month. I mean really what better time to be a zombie lover? That's right, there is no better time, except in a zombie apocalypse, cause I know how to survive.
Working lots right now. So not much time for blogs or any other form of entertainment. I haven't seen Zombieland, or anything else for that matter. I'm so behind. But I'm in a new apartment, si I get points for accomplishing something. Go me.

De Blog of Procrastination. Books Mainly.

So basically, I'm procrastinating. And tonight writing a blog is my procrastination tool. Almost everything I own is packed up and ready to be put into the trailer in the morning. I have to get to the kitchen and a few other odds and ends. You never realize how much stuff you have until you have to move. I'm actually getting rid of a huge stack of books. I'm tired of toting them around and I haven't read them since I was in highschool. The majority of them are Stephen King, Anne Rice, and Dean Koontz. I'm pretty much past that point in my life. I still read a few Dean Koontz, and I kept the Dark Tower Series from Stephen King. I plan on reading it one day, I swear. I'm not even remotely interested in Anne Rice anymore, although I did keep three of her books in paperback. For old time's sake.

When it comes to vampire novels, there's two places I go. Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake series and David Wellington's Vampire novels. Both excellent writers with refreshing ideas and more than enough action to keep me buying each consecutive book. I did read Stephanie Meyer's Twilight Saga. It was an excellent read, but I still prefer Hamilton's Vampire-Human-Werewolf stories. I feel like Twilight's completely over rated now. I picked up the book when I read an article in TIMES about it. By the time Breaking Dawn came out, I had to buy the book to just know how it ended. At the time I was happy with it. Now it just seems ridiculous (Breaking Dawn). But Meyer totally blew her fan base out of the water. If I was still 16 I would have probably felt just like the rest of the teenage girls. But I'm not. I'm 23, and young adult novels just don't do it for me.

I'm pretty picky about what I read these days. It seems like I've got a long list of books to choose from, but it takes me forever to finally pick a series. Especially if there is more than one book involved. Such as the Anita Blake series. It numbers 17 books with two set to come out next year, a novella, entitled Flirt, and a longer un-named novel. I've known about David Wellington's books for a few years, but never picked them up until a couple weeks ago. I started with the zombie trilogy. He has a vampire series, and a werewolf novel as well. Laurell K. Hamilton also has another series involving a faerie princess-detective. I cannot stand fairy stories, but I can't tear myself away from Hamilton's writing. It's addictive. Merry Gentry, the faerie princess novels, stands at seven with eight due out at the end of this year.

I also search for books involving creatures. Because everyone should know that creature features are among my top rated movies, as well as my top rated books. For this brand of writing I usually have to hit the classics by Peter Benchley, or go to Steve Alten. Alten's MEG series and The Loch are spectacular reads. Sharks and the Loch Ness are my all-time favorite creatures.

I always find books or artists in interesting ways. I bought a Hamilton book years ago in a Goodwill because the cover art looked intriguing. I didn't even realize I was a fan, until I picked up the Guilty Pleasures comic from Marvel. And I was hooked. The comics couldn't come out fast enough. I needed to know the rest of the story. So i started the series.

Same deal with Patricia Briggs, who writes the Mercy Thompson series I am starting shortly. She produced a pre-quel story with Dabel brothers publishing. The artwork drug me in. The story kept me there. Alot of times, I read reviews and find books that way. Sometimes it's because I accidentally clicked on the wrong link. I was looking for plot summaries for 100 Bullets, a comic from vertigo, and accidentally clicked on a link for 13 Bullets, a vampire novel by David Wellington. Poof! A new book. Things like that happen to me all the time. Just random chance I guess. The only book I've ever truly had trouble reading was Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. I love the story of Pride and Prejudice, but, let me tell you, it can be a boring read. Even with Zombies, sometimes I just wasn't that interested. Shame on me.

So I'm sitting in the floor of my bedroom, which is now empty, save for me, the vacuum cleaner, and a pile of books. Tomorrow I move to Seneca, SC. I'm excited. I like change ever now and then. And I certainly am in need of a change. I've never lived this close to my dad before. I think it will be interesting to see how everything turns out. And I'm not too far from my best friend Sarah, who lives in Georgia. She lived in Hawaii for over five years, and I got to see her very little. It'll be nice to have her this close, even if it still is in a different state.

I suppose I should get back to getting everything downstairs. I still have to wash clothes, throw the kitchen into a box, and clean all the rooms. I was going to load things into the trailer, but I believe that can wait till in the morning.

I'm barely making the effort today.

So, I'm pretty tired and I don't feel much like typing. I just pasted the P and P and Z review off my other blog onto here and I'll add a random link for all to enjoy.

I'm also dealing with several other problems involving random chimpanzees.

Spider Drawing guy Makes a Come Back with Oh-So-Sweet Shark Attack Drawings.

I finished reading Pride and Prejudice and Zombies today. It took me forever to get through the book. It's awesome, but it's still Pride and Prejudice, ya know? The beginning is pretty boring in pride and prejudice and zombies help it along a bit. It finally picks up about half way through. Some days it just couldn't keep my attention. Of course, some days nothing can keep my attention.

Zombie Link of the Day 2

That's right. There's a sequel. I'm going to start a new blog for these.

Today's link comes to us from FilmSchoolRejects.com and was brought to my attention by the great Bryan, who recieves offerings of bojagles sweet tea and snickerdoodle cookies in exchange for awesome tips such as this one:

Remake of 'The Crazies' by George Romero.

This is borderline zombie. Because I believe it's diease that infects them? They look like zombies, but still have conscious thought? Correct me if I'm wrong....anyone? That's what I thought. Good day.

Zombie Link of the Day

University Of Florida has a Zombie Attack Plan

Technically it's October 2nd right now, but I'm a little behind because today has been kinda off. I went to work only to be told to go home. So I've spent the evening with my dad and my step mom, Nancy. I may actually get to have a life again and have weekends off. Which would be excellent indeed.

I've read several articles today of interest. Quite a few involving books. So let's get started.

I love Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, and I haven't gotten a chance to read Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters yet, but now I've heard the crossovers have finally taken a turn for the worse. It's called Little Women and Werewolves. I don't care what you do to Little Women, it's crap, and I will never read it. I hate western-ish stories. I'm talking books here. I like Clint Eastwood Spaghetti Westerns. That may be as far as my western influence goes. But anyways. I'm calling BS on whoever thought that crap up. Couldn't you have used another book? With a better story? Or maybe you guys should just go ahead and call it a day and quit the nonsense. I'm still looking forward to Seth Grahame-Smith's original release of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. I can handle that. But the book thing is getting rusty. I would have maybe at least stuck with Jane Austen novels. I love the books you've created so far, but it's over guys. Really.

Next up: Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater. Young Adult novel I believe. Girl falls in love with a boy who turns out to be a werewolf and they have to find a way to be together so they girl's heard doesn't get broken. I'm over it. At first I was like, well this could be good. I love werewolf novels and such and then I read the summary and marked it right back off my list. Not interested in another book that involves teenagers and supernatural. I'm on the verge of getting sick every time I hear the 'T' word. It's not that it's gone mainstream, I can handle things being mainstream. I love TrueBlood myself. But it's everywhere. It's referenced constantly and ridiculously. And people actually go into hysterics because of it. I get excited, but I don't do hysterics. I'm pretty sure some one has the T flu, because they are throwing the shit up everywhere. Nasty. Nasty. Nasty. Cover your mouth.

Ahh...something good. Here it is' George Romero is writing his own book about Zombies. Specifically, his zombies. If you don't know who George Romero is, you clearly don't understand the relationship he has to zombies. It will be titled 'The Living Dead' and will be released in 2010. Zombies have never went out of style. Sometimes they just die down for a bit and then come back with a vengeance (see what I just did?)

I'm also interested in the novel Blood and Chocolate now. The movie was alright, plot was about like any other movie. No biggie. But I'm now hearing the book was majorly different and was much better than the movie adaptation. It's on the list and I shall purchase it as soon as I finish reading the other 20 books I have.

There was also a book called Kiss of Death by Joseph Locke. At the moment I can't remember if I liked the summary or not and I'm really not in the mood to find it again. Cause I'm being lazy. And even though I woke up today at 3:00 in the afternoon, I'm somewhat tired and lack much motivation.

Alright. I'm not sure what else there is. Well, I guess that's it for tonight. There's the zombie link of the day. Enjoy. I know I considered going to UF for a brief second because clearly those people know what's up. But I dismissed the thought, because on the other hand. It's safer to travel in very small groups when dealing with epidemics of and kind. I prefer no more than 5, including myself.

HickoryCon Aftermath

I did pretty well. I stayed well below my limit, but got alot of cool stuff. It didn't seem like there were as many tables filled this time as there were in the spring, but there was a good turnout from what I saw. There were alot of people in costumes. Which was pretty awesome. My favorite ones were, of course, the storm troopers. You dress up like Star Wars, you get my vote for everything. It's a classic ( the original 3) you can't go wrong there.

I got three new prints and a sketch. The prints were Wonder Woman (who I don't even like, but I love this print), Poison Ivy, and Batman. The sketch was also of Batman. Billy Fowler did the sketch and the WW and PI sketch and Adam Goudelock did the Batman Print. Both those guys are really nice. And very talented. They're on my facebook. I'll add them on here later.

I also got some comics I had been trying to locate for a while, so it was a pretty good day. It would have been a good day anyway.
So I'm dead-set on going to Baltimore now. I just hope the crew from Zenescope will be there. I know some of the guys from Aspen will be there, which I'm excited about that. Aspen was the company that got me started into comics. Ah, back in the day, where it all began. And now I'm an addict. Okay, so it's not that bad, but I do like to talk about comics a bit.

But I can't decide if I want to go to Baltimore for just the Saturday or stay overnight and leave out sometime on Sunday. It wouldn't be much more to stay one night. I guess it'll give me something to think about when I'm bored at work.

Which I have to go back to tomorrow. We're starting 6 12's tomorrow. Which sucks, but the money's going to be choice.

To finish a pretty decent day full of a good amount of geekiness, I decided to watch Fanboys. I love that movie. If you haven't seen it, go rent it right now, or buy it. Better take a crow-bar just in case the stores closed....or if you encounter zombies.
I'm trying to think of some commissions for some artists right now. I was thinking about seeing if Billy Fowler would be interested in doing one and maybe Josh Howard. There are a few other artists I was thinking about looking into as well, but those two guys have more unique and eye-catching styles than other artists out there. As well as Jamie McKelvie. These guys are super-talented. I know it sounds stupid, but I mean, they are like celebrities to me. I'd rather go to a Con than a movie premiere any day.

I can't help it. There's just something about Art and Comics that fascinates me. Well, after a long day of comic searching and laughing and talking, I'm worn out. I also havent slept since Friday. It was just easier to stay up and go to Hickory. Crazy Mandar. What a rebel! Alright. To bed. It's back to work tomorrow. And I need some sleep before I attempt to stay awake on Night Shift watching everyone else work.

Catching up on the Motion Pictures. I love you Man. Adventure Land.

After a long week at work, I've decided it's movie catching up time. So I rented a few tonight. And it begins....

I love you, Man. A Bro-mance by any other name, would probably be called something along the same lines. It was an okay movie. I didn't laugh hysterically. It was funny, it just wasn't as funny as some of the other movies I've seen. I love Jason Segal, but he was much funnier in Forgetting Sarah Marshall. As for Paul Rudd, his character was a bit toned down from the other movies I've seen him in. I really liked Role Models ,Knocked Up, and Anchorman. Back to I love you Man. It was basically about a guy that's the girlfriend type. You know the ones, they have more girls that are friends than guys. But he sets out to finds friends basically because everyone is giving him shit about it, including his gay brother played by Andy Samberg of The Lonely Island. He was the best part of the movie. And I enjoyed JK Simmons (Juno, Burn After Reading) as well.

Like every other romantic comedy movie, the plot goes something like this. Boy is sad because he has no friends. Boy finds friends through series of humorous adventures. Boy becomes close to friend, until an event comes between them. (This could be anything, in this movie it's money). Boy has angry moment with friend and they are not friends anymore. Boy's life is a bit sadder due to no friend. In the end Boy forgives friend, all is well! This is the classic romantic comedy plot. It's rather boring. Thus the reason, I'm not all to impressed with the movie. It gets really old after you've seen a thousand movies with the exact same plot with sligtly different jokes and small changes made in what sets events about. In other Rom-Coms, you would just replace boy with girl and friend with boy. It's a vicious cycle and it needs to end.

I'm not big on romantic comedy's for just that reason. I thought Funny People did well with not having Adam Sandler ending up with Leslie Mann's characters. About the only ones I can really stand to watch it Because I Said So and Failure to Launch (I love Justin Bartha and Zooey Deschanel, I hate SJP, not a MM fan either).

Next up: Adventureland. Now before I even watch the movie, I'm going to say I picked this up because it looked funny and has Jesse Eisenberg who will be in Zombieland in it. I've not really seen him in much. He was in The Village, but not a major role from what I can remember. Kristen Stewart (of Twilight fame) is also in the movie, but I'm less concerned with her. So here it goes. And we press the X button on the ps3 controller because I killed my DVD player when it dared to betray me and stopped working.

And....the end credits rolls. I now have the song Pale Blue Eyes by Velvet Underground stuck in my head. As well as the White Lines Zombie version from Shaun of the Dead. Or Freeze!

Back to ze movie. Before the Germans get here. I liked it. Between Eisenberg and Cera, I choose Eisenberg. Although Cera has points for playing Scott Pilgrim. Adventureland was pretty good. It was a cute movie. I love when he gets held at knifepoint over a giant panda. It was basically about a group of twenty-somethings and what they did with their summer. Which was work at Adventureland. And Drink. And Smoke Pot. And Be unruly. Oh. And there was a Disco Club (?) involved. I was kinda confused as to when the events in the movie were supposed to take place. Perhaps they gave a time placement at the beginning of the movie and I missed it. Either way, I despise side ponytails and jean jackets. Despite it having the above mention romantic comedy plot seeping through the drug usage and carny rides, it was a nice way to spend a few hours. I would put this in a category with Waiting. A Work related Comedy more than a romantic comedy really. Also I was impressed with Kristen Stewart. I think she did a pretty decent job in this movie. So did Jesse Eisenberg.

The part I laughed the hardest at, is when he returns home high to eat dinner with his family and his mom is telling him about other grad schools and things he could consider. They start talking about internships on Mister Rogers (I believe Mister Rogers is one of the reason our generations is so messed up) and they talk about the characters are hands puppets. Then his dad does this hand puppet impression and Brennon's like "That's a horrible impression." I thought that was hilarious for some reason.

It's kinda like Employee of the Month(in the way it's work related), which only had two funny moments. One at a party or something with the guy in the coke bottle glasses and the other is when the guy falls on the checkout register. The rest of the movie was shit.

I may purchase Advetureland, when it goes on sale. While enjoyable, I suggest renting it before buying it. So I've created a new category for movies: Work Comedies. Maybe this exists already. Probably. There's nothing better than making fun of something that you hate. And there's nothing most people hate more than their jobs.

I was hoping to catch a few movies in the theater this week, but I don't think I am going to be able to. On the list right now: Whiteout, 9, and Gamer. And I'm probably going to head back to blockbuster tonight and grab a few more movies. It's been a while since I rented anything, so I'm fairly behind. But you gotta do what you gotta do. And some days, playing with my cats is more important than watching a movie. Besides, the cats actually do funny things once in a while.

Zombies And Cigarettes

Everyone knows I love Zombies. Here's a short foreign film I found on io9. It's subtitled. I still enjoyed it. Only about 13:50, after that it's the credits. Also included is the Red Band Trailer for Zombieland.

Books. Drawing. College. Zombies.

I haven't seen any new movies lately. I haven't even rented new movies. I'm behind. I have however finished a book-Strange Candy, which is a collection of short stories from Laurell K. Hamilton. Strange Candy is a great collection of Hamilton stories ranging from two Anita Blake stories to fantasy stories involving wizards and such. It's the 24th book by Hamilton that I have read. I also finished Scott Pilgrim and the Infinite Sadness (volume 3) by Bryan Lee O'Malley, as well as Beyond Wonderland from Zenescope Comics. Scott Pilgrim is being adapted into a movie right now. I can't wait. Micheal Cera is playing the part of Scott Pilgrim. It's actually a pretty interesting comic, it follows Scott Pilgrim, but in a Video Game Style Way. He has to fight Ramona Flower's 7 evil ex-boyfriends in order to date her. It's very original. I love Knives Chau. She's one of my favorite characters.

As for Beyond Wonderland, if you don't read comics, I suggest you pick this one up. It actually starts with Return to Wonderland, and then is followed up by Beyond Wonderland. They are publishing the third book in the series, Escape from Wonderland in the coming months. It actually centers around Alice's daughter, Calie, and her adventures into Wonderland. It's definitely my favorite version of the Wonderland Tale. They also have a series called Grimm Fairy Tales. Which re imagines classic fairy tales with new and sometimes frightening twists.

I applied to WestWood College, but I've decided not to go. I read alot of reviews on the Internet on how the college was a fraud and a scam. I've also read alot of good reviews, but I'm still not convinced. It's a nationally accredited school but not regionally accredited. Which basically means, that the credits won't transfer if I decide to go to another school. So I've decided to wait. UNC Asheville has a design program and so does UNC Wilmington. I'm checking into other schools as well.

I started drawing again, but I have also joined a forum with a Comic Publisher where they have Drawing Challenges every week. Everyone votes at the end of the week and offers critiques on each other's pieces. It's not a huge thing, but it's fun and is kinda nice to have other people to talk to about comics. Alot of the people I hang around with aren't big comic fans, so sometimes it can be like a one-sided conversation. I'll post the pic, and the link to the website. It's for AspenComics. Which produces the titles Fathom and Soulfire, as well as a few others. I have a bunch of other drawings on my facebook if you want to check those out.

The main problem I have been having with drawing is style. Any fan of comics can look at the drawings I have done for the most part and tell that it's based off of someone else's style. I'm been trying to get away from needed to look at other artists work in order to draw my own. I'm still using some drawings, but just for reference, like what does Superman uniform look like? Things like that.

It's difficult for me. I'm a very visual person. Usually I need to see something in order to draw it. I can pull things out of my head and just create them on paper. I just don't function like that when I'm drawing. I can write like that though. So while I decide what I want to do with the rest of my life, I'm going to work to improve my art skills. Maybe one day I'll be famous and those drawings will be worth millions. Be sure to keep them, just in case.

I had a really weird dream last night that my dog Alaska, who died in Jan of this year, came back as a Zombie. He was 10 and had surgery on one of his legs. He did fine during the surgery, but he died later that night. The vet said it was most likely because he was old and his heart couldn't take the stress. Anyways, maybe I need to lay off the Zombie movies for a while. I watched Shaun of the Dead last night before I went to sleep, so I'm sure that was a contributing factor. So no more Zombies movies for at least......oh let's say......a week.
